Where's the deoderant???

I'm back in the game and loving it. Did my boxing class last night, and partnered up with one of the regular boys, who was an awesome partner. He's the other one I was talking about last week, of the two hardest hitters. I got a workout even holding the pads cos he really does hit hard, so forced those delts to do some much needed-overtime, and funny enough the whole way through when I was doing the punching, and dying I might add, he kept yelling the "NO PAIN" mantra that gets me through my stairs sessions. Kept me going to the end I tell ya!!

We did one drill through the class though where you face your partner, each pair lined up next to eachother so there are 2 long lines through the room, and you alternate between straight punches and uppercuts as quick as you can for 30sec at a time, then the person wearing the gloves moves to the next partner, so it's like a continuous-moving wall. Well my last partner (lets call him B.O. Boy 1) had the worst B.O. in the history of the world...or so I thought at the time. It was horrendous, I could barely breathe!! Then I got a double dose when it was my turn to punch and got paired with him again, longest 30 second blocks of my life!!

After the class, with what little I had left, I went down to do my abs workout. That's where my opinion of B.O. Boy 1 was slightly ammended. I started doing my first lot of sit ups across 2 swiss balls. Now let me just tell you, for anyone who hasn't attempted this, it's pretty tough at the best of times. Your feet are up on one ball and your butt is on the other and you are working your abs double time by just trying to balance and stay on. Well last night I was doing this while holding a medicine ball. Got towards the end of my first set. Then I get a waft of even worse B.O. than that previously described. I finished the set off (just) and looked over to discover that a second male (let's call him B.O. Boy 2) had perched himself on the matt next to me to do crunches, and had his hands fixed behind his head, allowing the aroma to rise and drift my way. I was nearly sick!! So trying to hold my breath as much as I could (didn't want to breathe through my mouth for fear that I would actually be able to taste the stench) I perched myself back into position. I managed to get halfway through set number 2 (fell off once though) before giving up. I couldn't breathe, nor could I concentrate enough to stabilise on the balls. I hung around for a little while, chatting to the boys, waiting for B.O. Boy 2 to finish and leave the area so I could finish my ab stuff...didn't happen. After about 10mins I gave up and came home, and finished my abs here.

Must say, between the stairs and boxing yesterday - I was smashed last night!! Am starting to get the DOMS now too...traps/rear delts/neck are stiffening up and have some awesome glute cramps going on - so leg workout this morning is gonna be interesting!! lol... I have done my first cardio session already being a 30min hilly power walk, and come home for brekkie. About to take myself now for said leg session and cardio session 2 (bike today...AGAIN!!) so it's done and dusted. Start work at 1pm and working til 9 so like to get it all done before then...nothing worse than finishing work at 9pm and still having to do cardio.

K better jet. Hopefully the people at the gym this morning are avid deoderant fans and I can get through my workout with no major dramas!

Til next time, train hard and be good.

She's BAAAACK!!

I know, I know. 2 posts in one day. Just had to jump back on cos I'm so excited that I have to blog about it - I went to do the stairs and my achilles held out!! 90 return laps up & down 20 steps :) Bit of a dull ache at some points but not enough for me to stop!!
I even did the plyo stuff after I was finished the stairs...left the sprints out though, didn't want to push it *too* much. Can tell I haven't done it in a few weeks, I started to get me some killer glute cramps during the plyos lol.
So now that's done and dusted, had some turkey mince/vege stirfry for lunch and now too sleepy to take myself anywhere!! Off for a nap me thinks lol.
Anyway that's it from me now :)

New week, new headspace, new beginning

So this week I am trying to get out of the crappy headspace that has been occupying my surroundings. Im over the negativity and dont like re-reading my blog posts - just filled with a horrible vibe.

I have re-written my diet. Clean clean clean from now til October. No cheats. I even had this conversation with Meegan last night, whose wedding is just under 8 weeks away - about whether I would make any exceptions on the wedding day and have a few drinks with her. The wedding is 7 weeks before my first comp of the season (I have all but decided that I'll also do the INBA ACT show which is a week before the NSW titles - gives me an extra shot at Olympia qualification)...my answer was that we would see how I was tracking closer to the date.

Yesterday, despite being a public holiday and me working all day on my own (dont get me started on that one), was a very positive day for me on the diet and training front. I got up nice and early and went for a powerwalk, had brekkie, toddled off to the gym at 7.20am and did my shoulders/biceps, followed by 40mins on the bike...all before starting work at 9am!! Training done for the day. I had prepared all my food on Sunday night so nutrition was absolutely spot on. I felt awesome for it.

Today I'm not working because I had to cover yesterday...it's 11am, so far I have done breakfast, been spending some time doing some research stuff on the net, had my 2nd meal about an hour ago and now that my tummy is settled I am about to scoot off and give the stairs a crack. First time doing any cardio aside from bike (and walking, which I only did yesterday for the first time) since hurting my achilles a few weeks ago...so hoping it holds up. I won't do the sprints and plyo's today, I think the 30-40 odd mins on the stairs might be enough for the first time back...the last thing I want is to overdo it. Then I am off this evening to do abs and the boxing class. CAN'T WAIT!!

Not sure how to spend the rest of the day - I will basically have about 5 hours free before gym tonight...thinking I might take myself to a movie or for a little "me" time and get a pedi or something. God knows I haven't treated myself to anything like that in, hmm, don't even know how long!

On that note I hope you are all well and rested after the long weekend.

Til next time train hard and be good :)

Massive Unit

OK it's official. I am a massive unit.

I am having one of those horrible days...well weekends actually...where I feel like a bloody beached whale.

2 days of very little aside from bloody egg whites and a few grams of oats for brekkie, with a total of I think 3 tuna salads in that 48 hour window...and not one gram dropped. WTF. Seriously. WTF.

Haven't really been "going" all week...well since Tuesday morning to be exact, and am due for TTOM at moment (well I would be if I wasn't on Depo Provera which stops them) so don't know if it's being clogged plus carrying excess fluid but all things aside, while getting ready to go out for dinner with Fern and Claude last night I tried to put on 2 of my pairs of jeans...and couldn't get them over my massive tree trunk legs.

I have stacked on some serious size, I have never not been able to put my jeans on (OK so they have been tight before but not like this). I also tried my bridesmaid dress on today for my bestie's wedding, which is 8 weeks away. I couldn't zip the bloody thing all the way up. So I HAVE TO pull my finger out and find what the hell is going to make my body respond. I have upped the cardio to twice daily on most days already and have decided that as of right now the cheats are gone out the window.

I don't know whether to be happy or upset with the way I am looking (today I'm upset with it). I have spent the last 2 years trying to put on more size to be more competitive up in the Open divisions as I needed more fullness in my muscle bellies but it's hard to be objective on yourself as to whether you have put on more fat than muscle. It's also so hard to go from being so lean to putting on size. Given my past history of anorexia I know how distorted my body image can be, and therefore judging myself is not an easy thing to do.

Anyway enough whinging. Sorry to harp on about it I am just having a moment (also could be due to TTOM??)

Dinner last night was great, I always love catching up with the girls. We went to a really nice Greek restaurant in Brighton-Le-Sands, the food was so fresh and delish! Then went to a place called Bay Vista for dessert, which is notorious for the sweet stuff on the menu. The place makes fabulous ice cream concoctions (like sundaes but they have literally about 20 varieties to choose from), which are served in dishes that are pretty comparable in size to a goldfish bowl. That is not an exaggeration either. I had one, it was divine but it was huge. The one I got came with about 4000 Maltesers in it - I couldn't even finish them. It was awesome but I felt sooo sick for hours afterwards. I won't be going there again in a hurry, merely because it's too good and I have now sworn off the cheats from now til comp. Might have to make it a date for a post comp meal there though :)

Today I went to High Tea with Meegan (bestie), the other bridesmaids, and her mum, aunty and my mum. I've not been to High Tea before but it was really cool, something different. Unfortuately I couldn't participate in anything except the tea drinking, shame cos the scones, mini sandwiches and little cakes looked gorgeous and so fresh. Oh well - another post-comp thing to put on the list!

Am working tomorrow which sucks cos it's a public holiday but I get Tuesday off instead. Am going in early before the gym opens to get training done and dusted before work. Have prepped all my meals already so the plan is to get up a bit early, go for a walk pre-brekkie, eat then go train.

Anyway hope you are all having a fabbo weekend. Sorry bout the long and whiney post...hopefully will be in a better headspace by next one.

Weekly stuff

I am bloody hopeless! Despite all my best efforts in promising to blog more often to prevent war and peace in every entry, I still don't manage to pull my finger out and do it.

I have had a ripper of a week prep wise. My weekly weigh in is tomorrow, I can't imagine any possible way the scales could have gone up this week (they did last week by 300g), so I am really looking forward to seeing the results. I have smashed through my modified program (modified only cos with this achilles injury my 2 weekly sprints/stairs/plyo sessions are out), and amped up the cardio to twice daily most days now. I have given every weights session 110%, and even put in a good effort in every cardio session on the bike, which is great for me, cos unless it's Spin or RPM I tend to slack off cos I'm not a bike fan. But I haven't slackened off once on it which is awesome. I have also managed to get in 2 boxing classes for additional cardio this week. The first one being on Tuesday when I finished work earlier than usual, so the regular boys from the class talked me into doing it with them. I paired up with one of the boys, who I later found out is one of the two hardest hitters in the class (didn't know that as I don't usually do the class), was loads of fun but I tell you what, up til last night I was in a world of pain. My traps and forearms were in agony, and my midsection felt like it had been run over by a semi trailer...might have been all the hooks we did in the class, combined with the fact I had just done an abs endurance session (3 different exercises all with weights, 3 sets of 50 for each...no bloody wonder!!) But didn't stop me from going back to the class tonight. If you don't hear from me for a few days I probably physically cannot type.

Food has been spot on this week. After my gain last week I decided on going back to the calorie/carb cycling method. So I have my average, which I stick to most days, but throw in a lower calorie/carb day and a high day or two. I am just coming off 2 low days in a row, which has seen me consume 60 (yes you read right, that's sixty) egg whites in the form of omelettes/pancakes. Both sweet (protein pancake, mmmmm yum) and savoury (vegies). Have limited carbs on these days to my breakfast, which included oats and prunes (don't want a repeat of the bean baby / alien incident!!)

So tomorrow (well today now since it's so late) is high day...am going out with Fern and Claude to celebrate Claude's back to back Sportsmodel wins at the ANB Sydneys and Asia Pacifics. Claude has requested we venture to an ice cream parlour to have pancakes and ice cream for dinner. As one does. Hey, no complaints from me - I would love nothing more than to have ice cream for dinner EVERY night, unfortunately comp diet only allows one of these kinda meals a week lol. Nobody wants to see a whale squeezed into one of Jo's fab bikinis up on stage!!

Not much else to report on. Working tomorrow day and Monday (yep got suckered into that one), going to 'high tea' on Sunday with my best friend who is getting hitched in about 6 weeks - we are having a bridesmaid/bride bonding session...and am HOPING to check out the Terminator movie at some point. I saw Frankie's review - although soz babes not a Trekkie myself so can't relate to that - but has anyone else seen it (Terminator)?? Am hoping it rocks, am imagining it will :)

Anyway gonna hop off now as only have about 6 hours before I have to be up to train before work.

So on that note, catch you all later.

Another week, another injury!!

Hooray for Friday!

Another week down (nearly), I can't believe how quick it's going. Went off with Miss Fern last weekend to the ANB Sydneys to watch a few friends compete. Was a great g-up, I love watching comps. The line up for figure was a bit disappointing numbers-wise, aside from Novice there were only 2 or 3 in each division which is a bit of a shame. And only one physique girl in the entire comp! In saying that, the quality of some of the athletes was outstanding, in particular the young guy who took out the Overall Mens, Luke Belcher, was in absolute prime condition. The kid is 20 years old and resembles a mini Arnie (no joke, even looks like him in the face up on stage and same build), this kid as a massive future ahead of him. I have seen him compete a few times (hasn't been doing it that long) and always thought he had potential but geeeeeeez...never seen him in the condition he had last weekend.

Our good friend Claude took out the Sportsmodel title against some very tough competition. There were TEN!!! in her division, and she looked HOT HOT HOT so was soooo happy for her. She had some major dramas in her life in the few weeks before the comp so for her to even make it to the stage let alone win was incredible!

As usual in comp land, caught up with loads of peeps and got to meet some more of my online friends. I am absolutely HANGING for the Sept/Oct comps to roll around now!

In prep news, diet has been awesome, training was going swimmingly...until Tuesday night, when I managed to do myself ANOTHER mischeif. Doing my indoor track session, intervals on the tready, and I could feel an old achilles injury flaring up. So what does this smart cookie do? Yep, push through. Not the smartest move I might add. I finished the intervals off, then hopped off the treadmill and completed the session with some plyometrics. Achilles was KILLING at the end. Took myself home and figured that it should calm down overnight. WRONG. The pain woke me up in the middle of the night, and by the time I got out of bed in the morning - well could barely walk on it. Looks like it's tendonitis again for me (or tendonapathy as they like to call it now)...so taking myself off to the physio today. Cardio is all but out, no walking, no running, no stepper, no elliptical. I managed to do a half hour on the bike on Wednesday morning after my legs session (at least can still do weights - just no calves), and went to an RPM class yesterday which I survived. Bit of pain in the last 5 or 10 mins but nothing too bad. HHMMMMPPPHHHH. Not happy Jan. Oh well hopefully a bit of physio will have it back to good in no time (it did take about 8 weeks the first time round though so maybe holding my breath should be out of the question).

Few things on for the weekend, a birthday tonight, working tomorrow and a baby shower Sunday. Other than that, same old same old.

Anyway better be off...gotta post more regularly to stop these long rants!!

YAY for Sydney Titles tomorrow :)

Yay!! The Sydney ANB titles are on tomorrow and I am so excited. Miss Fern is staying over tonight and we are heading out for a walk in the morning before getting ready and going. Been nice just to chill and eat yummy dinner together tonight, we had some turkey and veges, followed by a special treat Ferny made out of cottage cheese, peanut butter, splenda and cinnamon. We froze it and ate it for dessert....mmm.

Can't wait to see the show, it'll get me more pumped no doubt. This week has been fabb-o in terms of motivation levels and I think it'll just be the icing on the cake. I have some friends, new and old, doing the show and for once get to sit back and enjoy it from the audience.

It was my first real week of doing my own diet this week since I first started competing, and so far so good. I have been logging everything into CalorieKing - my God what a lifesaver!! I never realised how much easier it is than calculating it all myself. It has kept me on track and I dropped half a kilo this week, which doesn't sound like a lot but it's enough for me. I am still 18 weeks out and only want to lose another 6-7kg tops, and I know that in the last two weeks weight just falls off me - so 0.5kg a week is plenty for me. My vow to myself was that if I dropped any weight this week I would have a treat today - Nutella crepes (or Hungarian Pancakes) for brekkie. So I got them...and OMG sooo worth the wait!

I have been absolutely ripping it up in training this week. Been training very differently to how I normally would and I can see the difference it is making. Only problem is I am doing so much leg work, between 2 x weight sessions a week and 2 x track/sprint/plyo sessions a week that I am now getting very severe cramps behind the knees and in my achilles...so may have to take it a little easier on them, or invest in regular deep tissue leg massages. Just wondering if anyone else has had this?? And if so how did you stop it? I am even walking funny sometimes due to achilles pain.

Anyway better go. Oh - just before I do - quick update...another mishap in the gym today. After monday's weight bar dropping on my tummy episode, I managed to cop a medicine ball in the face today!! lol...and still have 18 weeks of dieting ahead!

I hope that anyone competing tomorrow does awesome, am thinking of you all!! And those prepping for next week, keep your eye on the prize!! Nearly there :)

Til next time, train hard n be good.
